John Cookmeyer is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with experience in Corporate and Casino Management along with maintaining a private practice as a psychotherapist. John’s clinical experience includes: substance use disorders (adolescents and adults), co-occurring disorders, school-based mental health and forensic psychology.
John received his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology (with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy) from Azusa Pacific University in 2013, and his Bachelor’s degree in Human Development, also from Azusa Pacific University in 2010(Cum Laude). John’s Clinical career began with a small private practice, while working as a Mental Health Counselor for a local School District. He transitioned full-time into the field of Recovery, working directly with patients with co-occurring disorders (Substance Abuse and Mental Health issues).
While working in facilities where he treated patients with co-occurring disorders, John learned the importance of family involvement in a patient’s continued recovery. John was instrumental in developing a “Multi-Family Process Group” and a workshop on Co-dependency, to ensure that the whole family had an opportunity to recovery.
When John is not working, he enjoys traveling up and down the California coast with his wife. He spends as much time as he can with his five adult children, and he is an avid sports fan.
